Save a Life Day 

Save a Life Day is a nationwide day of action that promotes year-round widespread nalxone access as one solution to the overdose crisis. 

Each year, on the fourth Thursday of September, communities across the U.S. set up tables, train neighbors, and give away free naloxone. 

What began as a small West Virginia pilot has grow into the country's largest annual day of free naloxone distribution. 

McCracken County ASAP participated for the first time in 2025. Join us in 2026 on September 24th!

Mark your calendars! On Thursday, September 24th, all 50 states will host a free naloxone events for Save a Life Day! McCracken County's event will take place from 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. at the McCracken County Public Library. Naloxone will be available for free to the public at the main entrance, either by drive through or walk up. All attendees will receive one naloxone kit, an in-person training, and information about local resources. 

Naloxone, more well-known by one its brand names, Narcan, is an easy-to-use nasal spray that works to reverse opioid overdoses. Since it was approved by the FDA over 50 years ago, this formerly prescription-only medication became an over-the-counter medicaiton in 2023. Agenices in McCracken County have dilligently distributed Narcan to the public for the past 10 years. 

McCracken County ASAP (Agency for Substance Abuse Policy) is serving as the lead contact for Save a Life Day in McCracken County. Turning Point Recovery Community Center, Four Rivers Regional Prevention Center, Purchase District Health Department, and McCracken County Public Library are serving as key partners and site leaders for the event.
